Top Places to Visit in Ayodhya

You can experience the best of what Ayodhya has to offer with the following destinations:

Ram Katha Park

Did you know that Ayodhya has a South Korean connection? It is believed that a princess from Ayodhya travelled to Korea in ancient times to marry a Korean king. To celebrate this ancient connection, the Ram Katha Park has held a memorial for the Korean queen Heo Hwang-ok within its premises since 2001. Along with the memorial, the park also has lush greenery and open spaces which can act as the right start for your spiritual journey. During festivals, the park becomes lively with musical performances, religious recitals, and more.

Mani Parvat

As per the Hindu epic Ramayana, Lord Hanuman pulled out an entire mountain from the ground in his search for the magical herb, Sanjivani Booti. This herb would heal the injured Lord Rama. When Lord Hanuman was carrying the mountain, a small chunk of it fell to the ground. It is now known as Mani Parvat. Along with holding significance for Hindus, Mani Parvat is also relevant for Buddhists. It is believed that Lord Buddha spent five years in Ayodhya, preaching to the public from atop the Mani Parvat.

Bahu Begum Maqbara

If you are a history buff or are looking for some stunning architecture to marvel at, then head to Bahu Begum ka Maqbara. It is the tomb of Begum Unmatuzzohra Bano, the wife of Nawab Suja-ud-Daula. He commissioned the Maqbara to honour her, as well as to match the magnificence of the Taj Mahal. The Maqbara is an exquisite example of Awadhi architecture with splendid domes and interior designs. It is believed that the white marble of the Maqbara shines even brighter in the moonlight, adding to the allure of the place.

Treta ke Thakur temple

One of the most well-known temples of Ayodhya, the Treta ke Thakur is dedicated to Lord Ram and also houses various other shrines. The temple was rebuilt in the 18th century by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar. What makes this temple so sacred is the belief that Lord Rama performed the Ashwamedh Yagna ceremony here, after defeating Ravana. However, the gates of this temple are open only on certain days of the year. Hence, do your research before heading there.

Tulsi Smarak Bhawan Musuem

This museum was established in memory of Goswami Tulsidas, who wrote the Hanuman Chalisa. He is also credited with writing the Ramcharitmanas, a retelling of the Sanskrit Ramayana in Awadhi, the vernacular language of the region. The museum contains collections of Tulsidas’ literary works and has artworks depicting scenes from the Ramayana. Additionally, a Ram Leela performance is carried out every day here, which you can enjoy in the evenings.
