The rising medical expenses in India have made health insurance policies a necessity now. Cashless health insurance services allow medical bills to be directly settled by the insurance company without the policyholder having to pay from his/her own pocket.

Cashless treatment policies are designed with the sole intention of offering financial relief to the policyholder at the critical time of hospitalisation.

How does cashless treatment work?

Most health insurance companies have an empanelled network of hospitals where insured patients holding cashless Mediclaim policies do not have to pay for treatment. The charges will be directly paid to the hospital by the insurer.

Types of cashless treatment

Planned claim–With aplanned claim, an insured is aware of hospitalisation two-three days in advance. In such claims, he is asked to take a pre-authorisation form from the hospital at least a few days before the scheduled treatment.

Emergency claim– When an insured person needs immediate hospitalisation due to a sudden onset of critical disease or situation, it is known as an emergency claim.

Important points to remember before availing a cashless treatment

    ✓    Necessary documentation, original doctor’s reports and prescriptions should be furnished, if required by the insurance company/Third Party Administrator (TPA).

    ✓    It is compulsory to display the health insurance card at the time of admission in the hospital to avail cashless settlement.

    ✓    Every insurance company has its own set of terms and conditions; therefore, it is important to carefully read the policy wordings.
