Let’s begin with some Quick Facts about car insurance!

What is Car Insurance Policy?

Why do you carry a spare tire? Because you never know when you’re going to need one. Car Insurance is no different.

It helps you take care of expenses arising from unexpected events like road accidents, theft and third party liability. Disability, physical injuries, death; the consequences are scary. Also, In the event of an accident, car repairs can cost you a big chunk of money which can throw your finances into disarray.

You’d think you would probably be better off never letting your stallion out of the stable. But where’s the fun in that?

Car insurance is the knight in shining armour that covers you and your hard earned money from accident expenses and legal liabilities. Bajaj Allianz brings to you a range of customized solutions that let you indulge your ‘need for speed’ without excessive worry!

What’s more, our world class insurance products cover your vehicle against most threats- from theft to accidents – like an invincible force field.

What is third party car insurance?

Accidents can be messy. Apart from a hefty repair bill for your own car, you could also be held liable when there is a loss of life or damages suffered by a third party. A third party is anyone other than you (the insured) or us (your insurer) that may be involved in the accident.

To protect yourself from such liabilities, you need third party car insurance which lets you settle any claims arising from accidental death or injury or damage to others property.

You need to remember though, that third party car insurance does not cover the cost of damage to your own vehicle at all.

But you might wonder….

What is covered under comprehensive car insurance cover?

Comprehensive car insurance plans cover you against unforeseen events such as damage caused by natural disasters or theft. While cruising on the highway, if you get caught in a landslide or hit a wayward animal, comprehensive car insurance will cover the damages.

With instances of car theft being on the rise, in addition to an anti-theft alarm and GPS tracking beacon, you need car insurance to secure your vehicle.

Comprehensive coverage includes both your own as well as third party damages. In the hour of need, it can be your best friend indeed!

What is depreciation in car insurance?

Time has a way of catching up with you, whether man, beast or machine. Depreciation is the ongoing reduction in the value of your car calculated on an annual basis. When you decide to insure your car, the market value of your car minus depreciation determines the maximum insurance cover available.

Within a period of 5 years from the date of purchase, your car’s value may depreciate by as much as 50%.

Now, let’s understand Policy Related aspects such as….

How is car insurance calculated?

Everything you need to know about what goes into the calculation of car insurance starts at understanding the concept of Insured Declared Value (IDV) of the car.

IDV is the value of your car estimated at the time of insurance application. It’s usually the market value of the car minus the depreciation. The IDV is also the maximum sum for which your car can be insured.

Not only does the IDV help in determining how much coverage your car needs but also the premium payable.

The age of your car is another important aspect in determining the amount of coverage it needs and the premium payable. It’s important not only to assess the degree of risk but is also linked to depreciation, which in turn is an integral part in calculating the IDV.

Other factors that play a role in determining the car insurance coverage and premium are the type of car, cubic capacity of the engine, geographical zone, No Claim Bonus, voluntary excess and other insurance terms agreed upon.

With the help of our online calculator, you can bid goodbye to the technicalities and calculate your car insurance premium within 10 minuscule seconds!

What does NCB stand for in car insurance?

Think of it as a performance bonus for not making a claim against your car insurance plan. NCB stands for No Claim Bonus. NCB  is a discount offered on the motor insurance premium to the insured at the time of renewal of their policy. There is a condition though. For the discount to be applicable, no claims need to have been made during the previous policy period.

What benefits can one get by paying additional premium while purchasing car insurance?

We know your car insurance needs can vary. So, we offer a range of add on covers that offer customised protection against a range of risks. For example, your four wheeler insurance plan can be topped up with several add on covers such as Personal Accident insurance. This add on coverage comes at an additional premium. These covers and their benefits are listed below:

24x7 Spot Assistance which provides services such as repair of flat tyre, jump start for car battery, legal advice in case of an accident and many more during emergency situations

Lock and key replacement cover that indemnifies the insurer for the cost incurred in fitting or purchasing new locks or replacement of keys of the insured vehicle. In the event of an irrecoverable loss of keys or a security risk arising out of a loss of the same.

Accident Shield that provides compensation for total permanent disability or death of occupants (other than a paid driver), which arises out of bodily injury due to an accident that takes place while they are traveling in the insured car.

Personal baggage that indemnifies the insured in case of any loss or damage caused to his/her personal baggage kept in their insured vehicle

What are the benefits of buying car insurance online?

Buying car insurance online has many advantages. Firstly, you get to compare car insurance plans on offer and make an informed choice. Secondly, you are more likely to own an insured vehicle for a substantially low premium amount and comprehensive loss or damage protection as well. The benefits surely outweigh the costs, we’d say.

Here are some of the benefits of buying car insurance online:

The advantage of choosing from a variety of options to suit one's needs

The buying process is fast, hassle-free and has very few steps

Payments to activate your car insurance policy and premium amounts can be made securely.

Is my NCB transferable when I change my car or insurer?

Yes, isn’t that great! Your No Claim Bonus (NCB) can be transferred even if you decide to change your car or your insurer. NCB solely depends on your claim-free record, which in turn shows how carefully you drive and maintain your car. So, if you have had a claim free year, you can easily transfer your NCB to another provider of your choice.

Please note that NCB discount is applicable only on own damage premium and not third party insurance for cars.

What happens if my car insurance lapses?

If your car insurance lapses you will have to produce the vehicle for inspection, after which the policy will be renewed. And now for the most unfortunate part. If you have earned an NCB and you do not renew your policy within 90 days of it lapsing, your NCB percentage will be reduced to zero.

That means no bragging about your accrued NCB that you had built with such patience and persistence.

What is a comprehensive car insurance policy?

There are two types of car insurance policies you can purchase- Comprehensive Motor Insurance policy or Third Party Insurance policy.

Comprehensive coverage offers both own vehicle damage as well as third party liability protection.

Third party insurance, on the other hand, covers third party liability only.

It is mandatory to have a third party liability insurance as per the Motor Vehicles Act enacted by the Government.

What is zero depreciation or nil depreciation in car insurance?

When your vehicle meets with an accident and the parts need to be replaced while repairing as per assessment, customer needs to bear the depreciation as per age of vehicle and material type. This depreciation is covered under nil depreciation or zero depreciation.

What is compulsory deductible in car insurance?

Say you meet with an accident and insurance company liability (amount) of repair comes up to Rs 5000, you will be required to pay some of the amount say 1000 or 2000 based on the cc (cubic capacity) of your Car, as compulsory deductible or compulsory excess.

What is the period of car insurance policy?

All insurance companies have to define a period for which the insurance cover is applicable. Both the policy start date and end date will be clearly mentioned on the policy document furnished by the insurance company. Insurance is valid within the start and end date. Post the end date, you will be required to renew the policy to enjoy further insurance cover. Car insurance renewal should be made as soon as possible to get its continued benefits.

How to renew lapsed car insurance policy?

Yes, you can renew your motor insurance car insurance policy online, starting 60 days before the expiry of your existing policy. In case your vehicle insurance policy has already expired, our authorised surveyor will inspect the vehicle, before policy issuance. The policy would only be issued subject to a satisfactory inspection and submission or required documents.
